In the late morning hours of today, January 27, 2024, the Avoyelles Parish Communication Dispatch Center received 911 calls of a suspect making bomb threats and criminally damaging property on Goudeau Road, Evergreen LA. The suspect, 36-year-old Joshua Nugent of 127 Goudeau Road, barricaded himself in his residence upon the arrival of responding law enforcement officers. After several failed attempts by Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) Deputies to get Nugent to surrender voluntarily, APSO called for the assistance of the Louisiana State Police. LSP Negotiators and SWAT arrived and took control of the scene. LSP Troopers were subsequently involved in an officer-involved shooting. Nugent was later pronounced dead at the Bunkie General Hospital. The Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit (FIU) is investigating the incident and LSP is the lead investigating agency.
