Escapee from DC-1 Jail Facility in Marksville, LA
On the evening of December 25, 2023, the Avoyelles 911 Communication Center received a report from DC-1 Corrections Staff of the escape of one offender from the Jail facility in Marksville, LA. The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana Department of Corrections / Raymond Laborde Correctional Center (RLCC) Chase Team and other local police agencies have responded to assist in locating the escapee. APSO and the LA Dept. of Corrections have tracking K9s on the ground in search of the escapee. The escapee is 20-year-old Joseph T. Ewing of Cottonport, LA.
The preliminary investigation revealed he battered and overpowered a Correctional Officer at the doorway where the Officer was entering the jail. The investigation and search are ongoing.

Sheriff David L. Dauzat would like to ask anyone with information or observing suspicious activity in the area to report it immediately to APSO by calling 318-253-4000 or 911 for an emergency. He also advises people in the area to take the extra precautions of locking their vehicles and homes.
