HOMICIDE

On December 22, 2022, at approximately 1920 hours, the Hessmer Police Department responded to a welfare concern call at 2707 Earl Street, Hessmer, Louisiana.  Shortly thereafter, Hessmer Police Chief Kenneth Smith called the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) Criminal Investigations Unit and requested that APSO become the lead investigating agency to investigate an apparent homicide.  APSO Detectives responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that 56-year-old Lisa Roy Mose of 2707 Earl Street was found with no signs of life and the apparent victim of a homicide.

Further investigation by the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office Detectives and the Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office revealed the victim appeared to have died from multiple stab wounds.  The investigation revealed the victim’s son, 27-year-old Daniel Jake McWilliams, committed the murder.  The vehicle McWilliams used to leave the scene was also found to contain evidence of the murder.  Pursuant to a 12th Judicial District Court Arrest Warrant, McWilliams was arrested for the offense of Second-Degree Murder.  No bond has been set at this time.  The investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff David L. Dauzat would like your help, and asks that anyone with information about this homicide please contact the Avoyelles Parish 911 Communication Center, or the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-253-4000.  He would also like to thank all the Hessmer Police Department, Marksville Police Department, Tunica-Biloxi Police Department, Moreauville Police Department, and the Cottonport Police Department that assisted or offered assistance in securing the scene, and assisted our investigation.

Note:  All persons named or shown in photographs and/or videos as suspects in a criminal investigation, or arrested and charged with a crime, have not yet been convicted of that criminal offense and all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
