RECOVERY OF A MISSING WHEELCHAIR RESULTS IN ARRESTS FOR ILLEGAL DRUGS AND RECOVERY OF A STOLEN FIREARM

On the morning of Wednesday, April 13, 2022, while Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) Patrol Deputies and Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) were discussing current incidents, including a complaint of a lost wheelchair that fell out of the complainant’s truck.  An alert CIU employee saw some male subjects at a local carwash near APSO, with no apparent handicap or medical conditions, playing with a wheelchair that appeared to match the description of the lost one.  APSO Deputies and Detectives then went there and made contact with 19-year-old Noah Courville of Deville, LA, and three white male juveniles at the carwash with him.  While speaking with them, suspected marijuana was observed by Detectives in plain view on the front dash of the vehicle they were in.

Upon further investigation, a stolen handgun was recovered from one of the juveniles.  The firearm was stolen during a January 2022 vehicle burglary near Hessmer, LA.  Noah Courville and the three juveniles were subsequently arrested.  Also, the wheelchair was confirmed to be the missing wheelchair reported and was subsequently returned to its rightful owner.

Noah Courville was arrested for the offenses of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and Possession of Schedule I Drugs. Courville’s Bond was set at $5,000.00.  Courville bonded out the same day.  All three juveniles were arrested for Possession of Schedule I Drugs, and one of them also for Possession of a Stolen Firearm.  All three juveniles were released to their parents/guardians.

Sheriff David L. Dauzat is proud of, and thankful for, the Deputies and Detectives for staying alert, being vigilant, and working as a team.  If anyone has information about thefts, burglaries, or any other crime in Avoyelles, please contact the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-253-4000.
