On September 14, 2021, Avoyelles Parish Sheriff David L. Dauzat shared the company of Law Enforcement Investigators from across the State at the Paragon Casino Resort attending Homicide Investigations Training hosted by the Louisiana Homicide Investigators’ Association. He was honored to welcome them to Avoyelles Parish and especially excited to see APSO Detective Joshua Spillman, the Avoyelles Parish Coroner Dr. James Bordelon, an Assistant Coroner, and local police investigators from Mansura, Marksville, Moreauville, Plaucheville, Simmesport, and the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe in attendance. Upon completion, those in attendance will be eligible to become Louisiana Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST) Certified Homicide Investigators. Louisiana Law now requires the Lead Investigator in a homicide investigation be a POST Certified Homicide Investigator. Training like this is another “tool in the toolbox” for investigators, and help enable all of these agencies to provide the professional public service our citizens expect. Trained and qualified Homicide Investigators, working together, can do great things, and help bring some justice to the victims and their families.
Sheriff David L. Dauzat would like to personally thank the Louisiana Homicide Investigators’ Association and the Paragon Casino Resort for making this possible, and to thank all of those people and the agencies that participated in the training.
Sheriff David L. Dauzat looks forward to the day that all of the law enforcement agencies that investigate such crimes in Avoyelles Parish have POST Certified Homicide Investigators.
